Guess Who's Coming to Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner? A Guide to Feeding the Beasts

For those friends and family who will have the pleasure or misfortune of having Thomas and Charles visit and are curious about any likes and dislikes regarding food, beverage and otherwise, here's a minor list of their demands.

Thomas has always been a bit more adventurous as an eater and has chomped such things as sushi rolls, pork vindaloo and rissois de balcalhão. Charles, however, has not had the benefit of a dad who meticulously planned all of his meals as Thomas did, and has more sugary, carb-heavy preferences such as fries, bread, cookies and crackers. (He did pig out on chow mein last night though).

They are both banana and plain yogurt fiends and get them daily (but only one each because of the fear of constipation–hey, I'm being honest.) Snack foods like goldfish, pretzels, dried fruits (apricots, raisins, cherries, pears), and for some reason rice cakes they love. (If you want to watch a sort of survival of the fittest, present a rice cake and watch them wrassel for it.

Charles has only been off of formula since his birthday in mid-June, but he tearfully and loudly demands his milk (whole full-fat) daily. His older brother is picky and will nag for milk (2%), juice (we dilute it at least 1:2 with water) and sometimes plain water with a straw.

Meals are tough for Charles. If he doesn't want or like something, he'll refuse to eat it by squirming, contorting or spitting it out. It's sort of like watching a scene from the Exorcist.

Examples of a Culinary Day in the Life of the The Thomas Charleses:

Breakfast:

1.) Creamy oatmeal w/chopped dried fruit; toast.
2.) Fried egg; cheese; and muffin.
3.) Pancakes, canned peaches (Charles Loves them).

Snack:

1.) Plain Yogurt
2.) Banana
3.) Rice Cakes

Lunch :

1.) Macaroni and Cheese, goldfish and juice.
2.) Tostas (grilled cheese w/ham sandwich)
3.) Open-face sunflower or almond butter sandwich & jelly (Thomas is allergic to peanuts).

Dinner:
1.) Burritos (I guess that would be tortillas, beans, tomatoes, cheese and especially guacamole)
2.) Chicken, Rice and Veggies w/sliced tomatoes
2.) Pizza (we have pizza night once a week).

Dessert:

Pie (Thomas adores apple pie w/vanilla ice cream).

(All of above include milk for Charles).

I fully expect to be ignored, but just in case you were wondering, there it was. Thomas is a good eater. He loves tortillas (calls them taco as he does egg rolls, pitas or anything resembling them) and lasagna and Charles particularly enjoys butter nut squash and apple sauce. If an eager-to-please grandparent should give them Trix, Fruit Loops, candy, spoonfuls of jelly or overindulge on ice cream (which they'd love), they will be ejected from the island.
